OCR PDF
Make scanned PDFs searchable and copyable by recognising the text on every page.
Turn a PDF's text into an editable Word document. Headings, paragraphs and page breaks come across, you can preview the result first, and the file never leaves your device.
A preview of the converted text appears here before you download.
How it works
Drop in a PDF. Its text is read and a preview appears.
Choose whether to keep page breaks, detect headings and include scanned pages as images.
Download the .docx and open it in Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice.
About this tool
PDFs are made to look the same everywhere, not to be edited. When you need to reuse the words, such as updating an old report, quoting a paper or rewriting a CV, converting to Word saves retyping everything.
This converter reads the PDF's text layer and rebuilds it as clean Word paragraphs. It joins lines back into paragraphs, re-joins words split by hyphens, recognises headings from their larger size, and keeps page breaks if you want them. It focuses on the text rather than recreating the exact layout, so complex designs, tables and multi-column pages come out as simple flowing text. Scanned pages have no text to extract; they can be added as images, or run through OCR PDF first.
See the converted headings and paragraphs before you save.
Lines are re-joined into real paragraphs, with hyphenation fixed.
Larger text becomes Word Heading styles, so the navigation pane works.
Pages without text are flagged, and can be added as images.
